Antioxidant is a great supplement to be added to your healthy diet. Antioxidants are natural substances that may prevent or delay some types of cell damage (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, 2013). The supplements are promoted as a prevention against cancer and heart disease. Also as for cancer patients, antioxidant is used to help healing and prevent recurrence. Study by Velicer CM et al (2007) concluded that dietary supplements are widely used by 81% of cancer survivors. Increasing one’s intake of antioxidants, which are involved in repairing cellular oxidative damage.
Many people are still confused and in doubt whether it is not harmful to take this supplement. A study by Block K (2008) noted that it is possible that taking antioxidant supplements during treatment can protect normal tissues from the damaging side effects of treatments and may improve tumor response and patient survival. Another research involving 8,521 patients by Simone et al. (2007) concluded 5,081 of whom were given nutrients, have consistently shown that do not interfere with therapeutic modalities for cancer. Furthermore, non-prescription antioxidants and other nutrients enhance the killing of therapeutic modalities for cancer, decrease their side effects, and protect normal tissue. In 15 human studies, 3,738 patients who took non-prescription antioxidants and other nutrients actually had increased survival.
